An important dialogue has recently set the stage for critical conversations on implementing the High Seas Treaty across the Western Indian Ocean region. The event was organized by the Nairobi Convention in collaboration with WIOMSA - Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association.
As keynote speaker, Marie-May Jeremie, the newly appointed Minister for Environment, Climate, Energy and Natural Resources for the Seychelles, noted: “The future of our ocean depends on how effectively we work together as a region—strengthening cooperation, building capacity, and ensuring no country is left behind.”
Prior to her appointment as Minister, Marie-May Jeremie, has been a long-term advocate for improved ocean governance and biodiversity conservation in the region. She was interviewed on these issues at a side-event organized by OACPS at the latest UNOC conference in her capacity as representative of the Conservation Trust Fund (SeyCCAT) / Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).
